Ennesima variazione sul mito di Ultraman. Questa versione cinematografica è uscita nelle sale giapponesi nel dicembre del 2004 e ha riscosso un buon successo, tanto che la stessa coppia di regista/sceneggiatore dovrebbe cimentarsi con il lungometraggio di festeggiamento per il quarantennale dell'eroe, previsto per il 2006. In questo caso si tratta di una rilettura delle origini: il pilota di caccia Maki, sul punto di congedarsi dall'esercito pur di stare vicino al figlioletto gravemente malato, collide con un misterioso oggetto volante non identificato. Sopravvissuto miracolosamente all'impatto, l'ormai ex soldato, riciclatosi come pilota civile, viene tenuto sotto stretta osservazione, tanto da essere infine rapito dai militari e portato in una base segreta.............
